RiverKings Part of Captains for Courage Initiative

February 22, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- This February, the Central Hockey League is continuing its relationship with the Hoffen Foundation through its member clubs, in its "Captains for Courage" program.

CHL teams will auction off goods in relation to their team ‚¬â„¢s captain, and those funds will be returned to a children ‚¬â„¢s charity in the communities of each team.

Mississippi RiverKings fans can bid on hockey items autographed by defenseman and team captain, Derek Landmesser. The autographed items up for bid include a helmet, stick, pair of gloves, a player photo and a unique RiverKings experience.

Fans can bid on the opportunity to sit with Landmesser and RiverKings broadcaster Bob Bakken during an upcoming edition of the "Coach ‚¬â„¢s Show" radio program. The lucky fan will be allowed to interact and ask questions on air during the broadcast.

The CHL is also providing a 2010-2011 CD-ROM Media Guide, and an official league hat to be auctioned off.

To bid on these items, please go to section 118 on the concourse during upcoming RiverKings home games. Bidding ends at the end of the 2nd intermission at the last RiverKings regular season game on Friday, March 25th.

The Hoffen Foundation ‚¬â„¢s website states that its mission is to carry out fund raising events to benefit charitable groups that cultivate and bring hope to children throughout the United States and Canada.

Proceeds from the silent auction will be returned to "Assists for Autism," a Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi charity.

"Assists for Autism" is the non-profit brainchild of RiverKings Assistant Captain Louis Dumont, and community advocate and business owner Wayne Bartley. "Assists for Autism" raises money for autism education and awareness in DeSoto County and the greater Memphis area.

RiverKings forward Matt Summers is the 2010-2011 "Assists for Autism" spokesperson. Summers ‚¬â„¢ younger cousin has autism and he is excited to help other kids and their families through this cause.
