Bucks Rally Falls Short

February 22, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL) - Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Allen Americans 4-3 Tuesday night at Laredo Energy Arena. The Bucks remain three points back of Arizona for the final playoff spot in the Berry Conference as they fall to 17-27-7 (41 points).

Chris Whitley improved to 9-0 all-time in the regular season against the Bucks as he stopped 21 of 24 shots to help the Americans become the first CHL team to clinch a playoff berth this season.

The Bucks trailed 4-1 with 4:30 left in the game but scored two quick goals to pull to within 4-3 with less than two minutes left but could not complete the comeback.

David Inman scored his first professional goal to make it 4-2 Allen with 4:22 left in the third period when he scored from the point. Inman's shot bounced off the crossbar and across the goal line.

Laredo pulled to with one at 4-3 with just 1:58 left when Reid Edmondson re-directed Inman's shot from the point past Whitley. The goal was Edmondson's eighth of the season.

The Bucks had a couple of chances to tie the game in the closing seconds but the Americans hang on to improve their CHL-best road record to 19-5-1.

Torrie Jung stopped 32 of 36 shots in the loss for the Bucks.

The Bucks scored before their opponent for the second straight game as they struck on the power-play 8:11 into the first period. Daniel Koger jammed in a rebound from an odd-angle at the end line to pick up his team-leading 24th of the season and second in as many games.

The Americans would tie the game at 1-1 with 4:15 left in the first when Jonathan Zion scored on a rebound from the slot to net his second of the season.

Laredo outshot Allen 10-5 in the first period.

The Americans would pick up two goals in the second period to take a 3-1 advantage after 40 minutes of play.

Allen went up 2-1 just 2:45 into the second when Nino Musitelli picked up a loose puck in the slot and scored from the bottom of the hash marks. The goal was Musitelli's 25th of the season and fifth against the Bucks.

Bruce Graham put Allen up 3-1 with just 1:12 left in the second period when he scored on a rebound from the right circle to net his team-leading 27th of the season.

The Americans outshot the Bucks 18-6 in the second period.

Brian McMillan put the Americans up 4-1 when he scored on a rebound with 9:06 left in the third when he jammed in a rebound.

Then the Bucks made their late rally.

The Bucks were outshot 13-8 in the third and were outshot 36-24 in the game.


Prior to Tuesday's game the Bucks released rookie defenseman Chad Morin. Morin was placed on team suspension earlier this season after being placed on the 30-day IR in November. Morin played in eight games and was a minus-two with 11 PIM's.


On Friday February 25nd the Bucks host Rio Grande Valley at Laredo Energy Arena. For the first time ever the Bucks will giveaway Laredo Bucks skateboards to the first 1,000 fans in attendance.
