Mississippi RiverKings News Release

(Southaven, MS) --- Hockey season is getting closer all the time, with the home opener set for October 16th, when the RiverKings tackle the Tulsa Oilers at home, beginning at 7:05 PM. In the meantime, the RiverKings continue appearing all over the Mid-South region to support non-profit causes and spread the word about your professional hockey team!

For instance, RiverKings Coach Kevin "Killer" Kaminski, Derek Landmesser, and both mascots Sheldon and RiverThing will appear at the Sacred Heart School Fall Golf Classic, set for Friday, September 25th at The Club at North Creek in Southaven. The tournament begins at 12 Noon with Kaminski and Landmesser playing in the tournament and Sheldon and RiverThing on hand to greet those who come out and take part. The golf event is a fundraiser for Southaven's Sacred Heart School.

When the Mid-South Fair takes over the DeSoto Civic Center, you'll be able to see the RiverKings, including mascot Sheldon. He'll be on the grounds on Friday, September 25th, so be sure to look out for him when you attend the Mid-South Fair.

Saturday, September 26th, you'll find the RiverKings supporting fundraising efforts at the Marc Floresca Golf Tournament, set for the Plantation Golf Club, 9425 Plantation Road in Olive Branch, and beginning at 8:00 AM. Coach Kevin "Killer" Kaminski, players Derek Landmesser and Louis Dumont, and Group Sales Manager Adam Shelton will be joined by RiverKings' mascots Sheldon and RiverThing. The tournament benefits Marc Floresca, a youth hockey coach paralyzed in an accident earlier this summer.

That same day, you'll find the RiverKings at the Conger Municipal Park "Play Day in the Park" in Hernando. The event will be held at the park, located near the intersection of U.S. Highway 51 and West Oak Grove Road. The activity takes place between 10 AM and 2 PM.

RiverKings mascot Sheldon will also take a side trip to help celebrate the opening of the CVS Pharmacy location at 7963 Goodman Road (Goodman and Crumpler) in Olive Branch on Saturday, September 26th. He'll be there between 3 PM and 4 PM, greeting customers and staff of the new location for CVS in Olive Branch.

RiverThing won't be lacking for any extra excitement that day, as he'll head for some ice cream at the Big Scoop Ice Cream Festival, between 11 AM and 4 PM at AutoZone Park, 175 Toyota Plaza, in Memphis. The annual event assists the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Memphis.

More golf is on the schedule for Sunday and Monday, September 27th and 28th, when the 21st annual St. Peter Villa Gala and Golf Tournament takes place, presented by Hollywood Casino and EMHC. The event takes place at the River Bend Links, 1205 Nine Lakes Drive, in Robinsonville, Mississippi. RiverKings Director Business Operations Ab Mattice, Coach Kevin Kaminski and Derek Landmesser will be on hand for that, along with both mascots RiverThing and Sheldon. The event annually benefits the St. Peter Villa Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Memphis. The gala will be held on September 27th and the golf tournament takes place on the 28th.

Speaking of golf, the sixth annual RiverKings Golf Scramble will be held on Friday, October 2nd, at the Hernando Hills Country Club, 1000 Bradley Drive in Hernando. The tournament annually supports the Jr. StreetKings youth roller hockey program of Hernando Youth Sports. Members of the RiverKings and coach Kaminski will be taking active roles in the event, along with both mascots. Signups are still being taken until September 25th, so if you haven't signed up yet, contact Cristin Franklin at the RiverKings offices, 662-342-1755 today!

The RiverKings will also be involved in the Horn Lake observance of National Night Out on Tuesday, October 6th. The annual National "Night Against Crime" will be observed at Yogi Bear's Audubon Point Jellystone RV Park, 1400 Audubon Point Drive (east side of U.S. Highway 51, south of Nail Road). The program is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community relationships, and send a message to criminals that the community is organized to fight crime. All proceeds from the event go to benefit the Horn Lake Neighborhood Watch Program.

More events involving the RiverKings are planned so stay tuned. Remember, for more information about how the RiverKings can support your efforts with an appearance by members of the staff, players, coach Kaminski, or team mascots, contact Whitley Rives at the front office.
