Mississippi RiverKings News Release

(Southaven, MS) --- Ted Vandermeer's goal at 4:25 of overtime gave the Oklahoma City Blazers a 2-1 victory over the Mississippi RiverKings in game one of the Ray Miron President's Cup Northern Conference semi-finals at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven on Wednesday, March 25th.

Vandermeer's tally from D.J. Jelitto came after extender pressure applied by the Blazers on the RiverKings crease in the first minutes of the extra session.

Following a scoreless first period, Mississippi opened the scoring when Louis Dumont scored a power play goal at 10:13 of the second period, assisted by Jeff Nelson and Stephen Margeson, for a 1-0 lead.

They held the lead going into the third period, but Oklahoma City tied the game when Jelitto poked in a loose puck in the crease area for a 1-1 tie, assisted by Chad Hinz at 11:53 of the final frame, setting up the extra session and the eventual goal from Ted Vandermeer.

Mississippi out shot the Blazers by a 39-23 margin, but were out shot 4-2 in the overtime period. Doug Groenestege won the game with a 38-save performance for the Blazers, while RiverKings goaltender Kevin Beech stopped 21-save effort.

Game two in the series will be Thursday night at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, beginning at 7:05 PM. Tickets are available through the DCC box office and through Ticketmaster. For more ticket information, including group discounts, contact the RiverKings offices at 662-342-1755.
