
Eagles Riley Nelson Named Sher-Wood/CHL Player of the Month

The Central Hockey League announced today that Riley Nelson of the Colorado Eagles has been named the Sher-Wood/Central Hockey League Player of the Month for the month of March/2009. Nelson will receive a Sher-Wood/CHL logoed portable DVD player, courtesy of Sher-Wood, to recognize his accomplishment.
Nelson had points in eight of the Eagles nine games in the month of March (multiple point games in five of those nine contests) helping his team to a 6-3-0 record. He finished with seven goals and nine assists and was a +7. Two of his goals came shorthanded helping to five SHG's on the season. His big night of the month came on March 14th when he recorded four points (2-2=4) and was a +4 in the Eagles 9-0 victory over Amarillo. That game was preceded by two consecutive three point games in wins versus Rapid City and Rocky Mountain.
The Cranbrook, British Columbia native was one of five finalists for the CHL's Most Valuable Player award (won by Odessa's Sebastien Thinel) as he finished fourth in the league with 82 points (29-53=82). He also ranked among the league leaders with a +32 (third). The Eagles won their third Governors' Cup Championship in the franchises' sixth season.
Other players receiving consideration for the Sher-Wood/CHL Player of the Month for March include Amarillo's Stuart McRae, Bossier-Shreveport's Joe Blaznek, Colorado's Greg Pankewicz and Ed McGrane, Corpus Christi's Jereme Tendler, New Mexico's Chris Robertson, Odessa's Sebastien Thinel, Oklahoma City's Bill Vandermeer and Chad Hinz, Rapid City's Jon Pelle, Rio Grande Valley's Jesse Bennefield, Rocky Mountain's Simon Watson and Tulsa's Brendon Hodge.
