Mississippi RiverKings News Release

The Mississippi RiverKings scored three times in the third period to defeat the Corpus Christi Rayz 4-1 tonight at American Bank Center.

The RiverKings (25-14-1) moved to within two points of the Colorado Eagles for third place in the Northern Conference. The Rayz (15-22-5) remained just one point ahead of the Amarillo Gorillas for fifth place in the Southern Conference.

RIck Kozak scored his 17th goal of the season with 10:10 remaining in regulation to give the RiverKings a lead they would not relinquish. Jason Lawmaster registered his fourth of the season with two minutes left to give the RiverKings a cushion, and Steve Makway's seventh of the year into an empty net sealed the Rayz' fate with 1:26 to go.

Ian Keserich made 31 saves for the RiverKings and won his fourth straight start with his new team. Jason Tapp made 34 saves for the Rayz, who have now lost five in a row.

Ryan Campbell gave the RiverKings a 1-0 lead 5:30 into the second period with his 17th goal of the season. However, the Rayz tied the game with 55.6 seconds remaining in the second thanks to Kevin Watters' 16th goal of the year.

In other news tonight, Jason McCrimmon made his RiverKings debut. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Detroit native started his rookie season with the Indiana Ice Miners of the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League this year. In 10 games with the Ice Miners, McCrimmon scored one goal, registered two assists, and accumulated 49 penalty minutes. Meanwhile, Ryan Held sat out tonight's game because of an injury.

The RiverKings venture west to Laredo to take on the Bucks tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. The pre-game show begins at 7:20 p.m. on Sports 56 WHBQ.
