Mudbugs Claw Their Way to Top of CHL Coaches Poll
January 31, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs tremendous run over the past seven weeks have earned them the top spot in the latest CHL Coaches Poll. The Mudbugs are currently on a 20-game point streak going 19-0-1 over that stretch. The last time the Bugs lost in regulation was December 8th in Colorado. Bossier-Shreveport tied the CHL record on January 19th by winning their 15th consecutive game. Bossier-Shreveport has not lost at home since November 2nd setting a franchise record with 17 straight home wins. The Mudbugs lead the CHL with 62 points (two more than Rocky Mountain). The Rage had owned the top spot in the last three CHL Coaches Polls. There was very little movement in the most recent poll with the Rage and Mudbugs, the Bucks and Eagles and the SteelHounds and RiverKings all switching places. The other four teams in the poll remained in the same location as the previous poll on January 18th. Only the Mudbugs and the Rage received first place votes.
The Mudbugs are 29-7-4 and own the CHL's highest winning percentage (.775). Last season's Governors' Cup winners (regular season champs) are 17-4-0 at home and 12-3-4 on the road this season. The other team making the most movement over the past month is the Colorado Eagles who were #7 in the January 3rd poll, #4 in the January 18th poll and now sit at #3 in the current poll.
Balloting for the CHL Coaches Poll is done by the 17 CHL Head Coaches. The Mudbugs received 15 of the 17 first place votes and the Rage earned the other two first place votes (teams cannot vote for themselves). The CHL Top 10 Coaches Poll is released at the beginning and the middle of each month throughout the season. Each first place vote receives 10 points, second place earns nine points, etc.
