Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Dan McWhinney stopped 34 shots against and the Mississippi RiverKings (26-19-4) picked up goals from four different players en route to a 4-0 victory over the Fayetteville FireAntz (17-26-5) on Friday night in Southaven.

The RiverKings jumped on Fayetteville for a pair of goals in the first period. Tyler Sheldrake notched his second goal of the season off of a Burke Gallimore pass in the slot to put the team up 1-0 with 14:24 left in the first. With under two minutes left, Sean Jones' shot beat Dustin Carlson over the blocker to give the RiverKings a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.

In the second, the RiverKings continued right where they left off. Leo Thomas backhanded a shot over the glove of Carlson off of a Todd Hosmer pass to give the RiverKings a 3-0 lead. Fayetteville then had a chance to get on the board midway through the second, but Dan McWhinney stopped Kyle McNeil's penalty shot opportunity to keep his 3-0 lead heading into the second intermission.

Fayetteville had opportunities in the third, but could not solve McWhinney on a number of opportunities and it was the RiverKings who found the back of the net late in the game. Todd Hosmer's wrist shot beat Carlson high to give the RiverKings a 4-0 win and clinch a spot in the SPHL playoffs.

Dan McWhinney (12-8-1) picked up the win after stopping all 34 shots against. Dustin Carlson (0-4-1) took the loss after turning aside 41 of 45 shots against.

The RiverKings return to the ice tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. for a rematch against the FireAntz. The RiverKings will be joined by special guest "Mountain Man" from A&E's Duck Dynasty and fans can meet the Duck Dynasty star during the game. Tickets are still available online at ticketmaster.com.
