Ice Bears Continue to Roll with Win over Havoc

Knoxville, TN - After an overtime loss in Huntsville last night, the Knoxville Ice Bears returned home for their second consecutive game against the Huntsville Havoc in the Civic Coliseum tonight in front of a crowd of 3,512 Knoxville hockey fans. The Ice Bears held the lead throughout the game and defeated the Havoc 4-2 ending Huntsville's 5 game win streak.

At the 5:44 minute mark, Peter Neal was penalized for boarding. Huntsville's Sam Cannata took issue with Neal. Brad Pawlowski dropped his gloves with Cannata, sending both players to the penalty box for 5 minutes. The Havoc skated a 2 minute power play for Neal's penalty but were shut down by the Ice Bears defense.

Jason Price sent a wrist shot past Huntsville's Kevin Genoe at 5:52 to put the first goal on the scoreboard. Jon Higgins and Ben Souders were credited with the assist. Mark Van Vliet doubled the Ice Bears lead just 56 seconds later. Ryan Hill and goaltender Bryan Hince assisted the goal that put the Ice Bears in a brief 2-0 lead.

Huntsville's Nick Lazorko notched Huntsville's first goal 20 seconds after Van Vliet scored. After three goals in 1 minute 16 seconds the Ice Bears maintained a 2-1 lead.

The Ice Bears widened their lead when Jeremy Klaver fired the puck in the far top corner to put Knoxville up 3-1. Andrew Dovey was first assist, and Bryan Hince logged his second assist of the game. The Ice Bears finished the period leading 3-1.

Huntsville found the net 4:30 minutes into the final period leaving the Ice Bears up by 1. Corey Fulton dropped his gloves to take on former Ice Bear, Paul Kurceba, at 9:11. Fulton took Kurceba to the ice and both players were given 5 minutes for fighting, with an added 2 minutes to Fulton for instigating.

In a last effort to catch the Ice Bears, Huntsville pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. Ben Souders found the empty net on a sharp angled backhanded shot to tally the final goal of the night with assists from Higgins and Klaver. The Ice Bears ended the Havoc five game winning streak with the win 4-2.
