Biloxi, MS - The Surge drop their fifth straight game in the first of a three game weekend series in Peoria, Illinois. Thanks to a loss by the Fayetteville FireAntz tonight, Peoria's win over the Surge solidifies a playoff spot, making them the fourth team in the SPHL to do so.

A sputtering Surge offense had trouble keeping Peoria on the defensive, and were outshot 43 to 21. The first points on the game didn't come until nearly the end of the second period when Parker Stanfield scored on a quick wrap around coming off an assist from Charlie Carkin and Matt Viola of the Rivermen.

Early in the third period, a quick strike form Locke Jillson (Joe Schiller, Nick Prockow) gave Peoria a two goal lead over the Surge. The Surge dialed up the voltage in the third, getting the bulk of their shots in the final frame, but were unable to get anything past the SPHL's leading net minder, Kyle Rank. Stanfield went on to score his second goal of the game, sealing the deal for the Rivermen, who went on to win 3-0. The Mississippi Surge power play struggled, unable to score with a man advantage going 0 for 6, while Peoria went 1 for 6.

The Surge look to redeem themselves tomorrow night versus the Rivermen, and will wrap-up the weekend series on Sunday afternoon.
