Mississippi RiverKings News Release
Southaven, MS --- Saturday the RiverKings hope to hammer home a win over the Oklahoma City Blazers. This tough as nails matchup will start at 7:05pm at the DeSoto Civic Center and will feature a one of a kind builder's themed jersey worn by the RiverKings players, which will be auctioned off following the game to raise money for Habitat for Humanity.
"This years' game jersey auction is generously sponsored by North Mississippi Home Builders Association on behalf of Habitat for Humanity Hernando Desoto," explained March Manning, President of the Hernando DeSoto Habitat for Humanity Affiliate.
"Michael Rice of the RiverKings came to me with the idea," John Wheeler explained. "As the president of the North Mississippi Home Builders Association, I got very excited and presented the idea to the board, who were very pleased and obviously voted in favor. This is something new, something unique and a way for us to help the community."
These themed jerseys feature brush stroked numerals, wood planks across the top, brick across the bottom, and the RiverKings logo crest with a bit of a twist. Sheldon dons his hard hat and tool belt for this special occasion.
"We are especially proud of Sheldon's hard hat and hammer," Manning said. "This jersey indicates theRiverKings support of our mission; To help eliminate poverty housing in Desoto county by building affordable decent homes for qualified families in need."
"Habitat for Humanity Hernando Desoto Affiliate is proud to be a part of the RiverKings' Team," Manning said. "Last year the RiverKings came to Walls, MS where theentire team took part by roofing an entire home in one day."
Habitat for Humanity Hernando Desoto envisions "A Desoto County where everyone has a decent place to live."Hundreds of volunteers every year share that vision and help by building and raising money each year.
"This year is one of crucial importance, unless more land is obtained on which to build new homes, there willbe no more Habitat for Humanity homes built in DeSoto County. The land generously donated years ago is now the site for the only spot remaining where a homecan be built," Manning said.
Fifty percent of the monies raised by the jersey auction this Saturday night will go to help Hernando DeSoto Habitat for Humanity.
To further raise money for this great cause Habitat for Humanity and the North Mississippi Home Builders Association are selling tickets for this Saturday's matchup.
Tickets are available through the North Mississippi Home Builders Association for $15, with $6 of the ticket cost being donated to Habitat for Humanity Hernando DeSoto.
