
RiverKings Beat Back Bossier-Shreveport in Tuesday Tilt

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Mississippi scored twice in the third period to back the 19-save performance of goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy in posting a 3-1 victory over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in Central Hockey League action Tuesday, January 18th at Southaven's DeSoto Civic Center.
The RiverKings opened the game with a quick goal early in the contest. Matt Summers added to his team leading goal total, now at 15, scoring at 1:03 of the game for a 1-0 lead, which remained the score at the end of the first period.
In the second period, Bossier-Shreveport tied the game with a power play goal from Shawn Limpright, who netted his seventh goal of the year and first power play goal at 5:31, a goal that resulted in the second intermission score being even at 1-1.
However, Mississippi fought back in the third period to take the lead and claim the victory. Nearly half-way into the period, Jeff Christian took a pass in the high slot and beat the Bossier-Shreveport goaltender for his 11th goal of the season and a 2-1 RiverKings lead. It would eventually become the game-winning goal, Christian's third game-winner of the season.
Darrell Stoddard added insurance with a power play goal at 16:17 of the final frame for the RiverKings and the final score of 3-1.
Pechurskiy won his tenth game of the season between the pipes for the RiverKings, stoppping 19-of-20 shots. Bossier-Shreveport goaltender John DeCaro finished with 20 saves on 23 shots in falling for the sixth time this season (10-6-1).
Each team scored once on the power play, as the RiverKings went 1-for-4 with the man advantage and the Mudbugs went 1-for-6.
With the win, the RiverKings moved into a tie for fourth place in the CHL Berry Conference race with a 19-18-1 record and 39 points. Bossier-Shreveport dropped to 21-15-1 and is now in a four-game losing streak.
Mississippi next plays a two-game home stand against the Dayton Gems this Friday and Saturday night.
Friday's game is expected to be Derek Landmesser's 600th contest in a RiverKings uniform for the team's all-time career appearance leader.
Saturday's game is Pack The House Night and another Season Ticket Redemption Night. The RiverKings urge Mid-South fans to come out and back the team with a full house for the game with the Gems. There will also be indoor fireworks that night, courtesy of Get Pyro to add an extra blast of excitement to the evening. The National Wild Turkey Federation will be the non-profit MVP of the evening, with a special jersey auction and a post-game skate planned for fans after the game.
