Bucks Stung by Bees in OT, 3-2

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-2 in overtime Tuesday night at Laredo Energy Arena. The Bucks two-game home winning streak comes to an end as they fall to 13-16-6 (32 points) on the season.

Tyler Lehrke tipped in a loose puck with just 2:04 left in overtime to snap the Killer Bees four game losing streak as they improve to 15-21-3 (33 points).

Mike Brown picked up his first win for the Bees as he stopped 31 of 33 shots while Torrie Jung played well in defeat for the Bucks as he set aside 36 of 39.

The Bucks jumped out in front of the Bees just 2:19 into the game when Ryan Bennett scored in his first game in a Laredo uniform on an odd-man rush from the right circle. The Bucks have scored first in seven of their last nine games.

The Killer Bees answered back with 4:09 left in the first period when Tomas Klempa struck on the power-play from bottom of the right circle to pick up his team-leading 16th of the season.

The Bucks were outshot 12-9 in the first period.

The Killer Bees would take a 2-1 lead when Darcy Campbell struck shorthanded on a two-on-one break 5:39 into the second. The goal was Campbell's 10th of the campaign.

The Bucks outshot the Killer Bees 14-13 in the second period.

Laredo tied the game at 2-2 just 4:19 into the third period when Ryan Lehr scored on a one-timer from the left circle with the Bucks on a two-man advantage. The goal was Lehr's seventh of the season.

The Bucks were outshot 10-8 in the third period and 4-2 in overtime with the Bees holding a 39-33 shot advantage in the contest.

The Bucks and Bees each have 13 points against each other in the Cricket Mayor's Cup Standings.

The Bucks played without their leading scorer, all-star forward Neil Trimm, and Justin Styffe who were out with injuries.

The Bucks head on the road and start a four-game road trip Friday night in Tulsa. Game time is 7:35pm.

BUCKS SIGN CURRIE

Prior to Tuesday's game the Bucks signed former CHL defenseman Brent Currie. The 32-year-old Currie played eight professional seasons from 1999-2007 playing for eight different current or former CHL/WPHL teams. Currie suited up for the Corpus Christi Icerays (WPHL, 1999-00), Austin Ice Bats (WPHL, 1999-00), San Angelo Outlaws/Saints (WPHL/CHL, 1999-2003), Odessa Jackalopes (CHL, 2003-04), Amarillo Gorillas (CHL, 2003-04), Flint Generals (UHL, 2004-2006) and Quad City Mallards (UHL, 2006-07).

In 493 career games Currie put up 97 points (15-8297) and piled up 1,186 PIM's.
