Mississippi RiverKings News Release

(Southaven, MS) -- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) have announced they have acquired forward Matt Summers from the Laredo Bucks. The acquisition completed a trade made earlier that sent goaltender Sebastien Centomo to the Bucks for future considerations.

The 22-year old Summers is a native of the Minneapolis-St. Paul suburb of Savage, Minnesota. In five games with the Bucks this season, Summers assisted on three Laredo goals, was tagged for four minutes in penalties, and was a plus-2.

Last season, the 6-1, 180-pound forward scored 12 goals and 35 points in 57 games for Laredo. He was plus-five for the regular season and was given 41 minutes in penalties. Matt scored three power play goals and five of his 12 goals were game-winners. He also scored one goal in eleven playoff games for the Bucks.

Before coming to Laredo, Summers played junior hockey in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and half of one season with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League. With the OCN Blizzard of the Manitoba league, Matt scored 50 goals and had 119 points during the 2006-07 season in 63 games.

RiverKings' Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski had this to say about Summers: "This is a guy who had a great rookie year. Matt has an excellent work ethic, speed and can be a set up man as well as a threat to score. Summers will provide a scoring boost for us that we've been needing."

Summers is the third player received by the RiverKings in the past week and a half. Brad Bonello was acquired in a trade with Texas for future considerations last Saturday and played against Bossier-Shreveport Saturday night in the RiverKings' meeting in Louisiana. Dallas Costanzo was also acquired off waivers from Bossier-Shreveport in the early part of last week and took part in last weekend's games at Oklahoma City and Bossier-Shreveport.
