Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs suffered their first loss of the 2008-09 season on Thursday night at CenturyTel Center, falling 3-2 to the Colorado Eagles. Colorado goaltender Andrew Penner was stellar with 47 saves in the contest as Colorado moved to a league best 7-0 this season.

Despite 49 shots and two third period goals to get within one of tying the game, Bossier-Shreveport never could get the equalizer in the third period. The Bugs are now 4-1 on the year with eight points.

The Eagles jumped out an early lead in this one with three goals in the first nine minutes of the game. Riley Nelson (even-strength) and Ryan Tobler (powerplay) scored just 1:13 apart in the opening period to give Colorado the early lead. Just two seconds later, Neil Clark tried to get his team going by dropping the gloves with the Eagles' Adam Knight. Then Konrad Reeder scored another powerplay goal to put Colorado up 3-0 after one period.

In the second period, the Mudbugs outshot the Eagles 17-10 and had three powerplays, including a full two minutes of 5-on-3 time, but couldn't crack Penner to get on the scoreboard.

The Bugs finally buried a puck on their 41st shot of the game in the third period when Neil Clark scored his first as a Mudbug to cut the lead to 3-1. Just under two minutes later, Simon Mangos scored his second goal in as many games to make it 3-2 with about seven minutes remaining. Despite a late powerplay and a few great chances though, the Mudbugs couldn't tie the game late and fell the Eagles at CenturyTel Center for the fifth time in their past six meetings there.

The Mudbugs finished the night 0 for 10 on the powerplay, while Colorado was 2 for 7. Ryan Mior made 22 saves in his first professional loss while Penner moved to 4-0 this season.
