LOVES PARK, Ill. - Lee Rubin singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning as the Windy City ThunderBolts beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 4-3, on Monday at Road Ranger Stadium.
The RiverHawks lost their team-record ninth in a row, in front of a sellout crowd of 3,408. The ThunderBolts have won six straight and for the second night in a row, beat the RiverHawks with a ninth-inning run.
Jake Eigsti hit his 10th home run of the season for the RiverHawks.
The ThunderBolts broke a 3-3 tie in the ninth with a run off reliever Corey Frerichs (0-1). Frerichs walked leadoff hitter Chris Wade. Wade advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nick Kuroczko and scored on Rubin's line-drive single to center field.
Rubin, cut by the RiverHawks in spring training, was 2-for-4 Monday and is 3-for-6 in the series.
The RiverHawks rallied for an unearned run in the eighth inning and had runners on the corners with two outs. Greg Johnson (4-1) struck out Matt Greener to preserve the tie and won in relief. Wes Alsup got out of a two-on, one-out jam in the ninth inning and picked up his sixth save.
The RiverHawks had eight-game losing streaks July 28-Aug. 5, 2003 and May 24-June 6, 2009.
