
Malkowski, Relievers Lead Miners to 1-0 Win

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Miners snuck past the Otters with a 1-0 victory Monday night at Bosse Field. With the win the Miners took two of three from Evansville to finish their six-game road trip.
The only run of the game crossed the plate on Nate Hall's seventh inning sacrifice fly to plate Sean Coughlin. Coughlin had two of the Miners four hits in the game.
Brendon Malkowski tossed six scoreless innings to pick up his team leading seventh win of the season. He struck out a career high six batters and scattered five hits, walking just one. Evansville's Kyle Barry continued his dominance against the Miners but still took the loss. Barry allowed just one run in eight innings and struck out eight Miners. He is now 2-1 with a 1.83 ERA in three appearances against the Miners this season despite a 4.65 ERA overall. Hall has driven in both of the Miners runs in the last two games with a pair of sac flies. He now has 2 RBIs on the year.
The bullpen held off potential Evansville rallies as Gabriel Shaw, Ben Shivers and Clayton Dill each tossed a scoreless inning. Dill pitched around a leadoff single and an error to pitch earn his second save of the season.
Following an off day on Tuesday, the Miners will begin a six-game homestand on Wednesday, July 27 with a 7:05 p.m. game against the Normal CornBelters. Ryan Zink will make the start for the Miners. Normal has not yet announced a starter.
