Freedom Stunned in Ninth in 7-4 Loss

The Normal CornBelters scored four runs in the ninth inning with two outs and won 7-4 Monday afternoon. The series is now even at one apiece heading into Tuesday night's rubber game.
The CornBelters scored a run in the first inning for the second straight game. Bello hit Alvaro Ramirez with a pitch, Frank Martinez singled and Daniel Cox walked to load the bases with one out. Asif Shah hit an RBI groundout to give Normal a 1-0 lead.
In the third, the Freedom had a two-out rally against Normal starter Brett Lester. With Junior Arrojo at second after being hit by a pitch, Frierson hit an RBI single to right to tie the game. Chris Curley followed with a double to the gap in left center to score Frierson and give the Freedom a 2-1 lead.
Florence came back for more in the fourth inning as Lester hit Jonathan Cisneros and walked Kevin Haas. Again, the Freedom used a two-out hit, this time a two-run bloop double to left by Frierson to make it 4-1.
The Cornbelters cut the lead to two on an RBI single by Ramirez in the fifth. In the sixth, Mike Mobbs doubled and moved to third on a groundout. He scored on Tyler McNeely's infield single to trim the Freedom's lead to 4-3. Bello's afternoon was over after that hit, as he allowed three runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out one.
The Freedom tried to extend their 4-3 lead in the seventh, but two runners were thrown out at home plate. Braden Tullis threw two scoreless innings and gave way to Chad Robinson with two outs in the eighth.
Robinson got two outs in the ninth before walking consecutive Normal hitters. Asif Shah broke an 0-for-11 slide by singling home Martinez from second. Zeb Engle came in and allowed two hits, one a two-run double by Mike Mobbs that gave the CornBelters a 6-4 lead. Tyler Keeble added an RBI single to make it 7-4.
Tuesday night's homestand finale will be at 7:05 pm. Andy Clark will pitch for Florence.
Quick Notes: Arrojo has been hit by a Frontier League-leading 23 pitches and is just six away from tying the league record of 29 set in 2005...Curley has an RBI in each of his last three games and now has 50 on the season...Jarred Frierson is hitting .333 and has knocked in nine runs this homestand...It is the first time the Freedom have lost this season after leading entering the ninth inning (came in 21-0).
