The âBolts beat the playoff-bound Rockford RiverHawks, 6-2, to cost the âHawks home-field advantage in next week's Frontier League postseason.
Kalamazoo, a 4-1 winner over visiting Mid-Missouri Saturday, clinched home-field advantage against the RiverHawks in the first first round. The best-of-five series begins next Wednesday at Kalamazoo. The RiverHawks will host Games 3 and 4, if a fourth is necessary.
Windy City scored single runs in the second and third innings and broke the game open with a three-run sixth, in front of 2,295 at Marinelli Field.
Rockford starter Luke Lambo struck out a season-high nine, but walked two and threw three wild pitches. Cleanup man Justin Schuda led off the second with a four-pitch walk, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Matt Ferrara groundout. Former RiverHawk Doug Schutt singled to center field to double the lead in the third. The RiverHawks committed two errors in the sixth as the âBolts drove Lambo (1-3) from the game.
Olmo Rosario broke up Mike Renery's shutout bid with his 11th home run, a two-on, two-out shot to left in the seventh inning. Renery (7-8) struck out two, walked four and hit two, but scattered three hits over seven innings.
The RiverHawks have a big Sunday planned, beginning with a 6:05 p.m. game against the âBolts. It's the final Family Night, when families can get up to five general-admission tickets for $10. The 10th Inning sponsors Wristband Night. In addition, Rockford's biggest stars will compete in the postgame Celebrity Home Run Derby. The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
