Evansville Otters News Release
The Evansville Otters got shutout pitching by Ben Foster and two relievers in winning the first game of their final series of the season, beating the Chillicothe Paints 3-0.
Evansville scored in the bottom of the second inning. With one out in the frame, Trask Munoz walked, followed by a Brian McKenna single. Two batters later, Nick Shay lined a single into left field to score Munoz and put the Otters up 1-0.
The Otters scored a pair in the fifth to give them a 3-0 lead. After Josh Stewart reached on an error to lead off the inning, Frank Scott hit a weak tapper to the left side. Pete Soskin came off the mound to field it, but threw wide of first base. As the ball rolled up the right field line, Stewart came all the way around from first to score, Scott went into third. The next batter Denver Stuckey, brought home Scott with a groundout.
Ben Foster (9-5) pitched 7.1 innings in picking up his ninth win of the season. He allowed five hits and struck out nine. Nathan Stone tossed the final two outs of the eighth and Ryan Burnau struck out the side in the ninth for his 13th save. Pete Soskin took the loss for the Paints.
The Otters will continue the series tomorrow night at 6:05 p.m. with Andre Simpson (6-5) on the mound for Evansville. The Otters will have donation buckets out at the game to collect money to be donated to the disaster relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Evansville will match any donations made up to $10,000. As part of the effort, the Otters Booster Club will also be donating the half-pot proceeds towards the effort.
