CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs exploded for seven runs on seven hits in the eighth inning to erase a 4-1 deficit and surge past the West Virginia Power, 8-4, in South Atlantic League action Wednesday night in front of 3,177 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

With the victory, the RiverDogs improve to 53-50 overall and 15-18 in the second half while the Power falls to 53-48 overall and 14-18 in the second half. The win gives Charleston manager Pat Roessler his first two-game win streak since taking over the RiverDogs on July 12.

The RiverDogs are guaranteed at least a split in this four-game series, which is the only time the two clubs meet this season.

In Charleston's eighth, C.J. Henry doubled down the left field line to score a run and Eduardo Nunez singled home two more. Joe Muich accounted for another RBI single as did Tim Battle. Reegie Corona put the game out of reach with a 2-run single to center capping the 11-batter explosion.

Daniel McCutchen (1-0) picked up his first win of the season as Charleston's fourth pitcher pitched three complete innings and scattered two hits while striking out three batters. Cory Stuart pitched the ninth frame and fanned a pair.

West Virginia took an early lead against Charleston starter Garrett Patterson as they pushed two runs across in the second inning. Kenny Holmberg doubled home Ned Yost with the first tally, who led off the frame with a base on balls and promptly stole second. The second run came on a bunt single by Michael Brantley that scored Holmberg.

The Power added a pair in the fifth charged to reliever David Seccombe, on a sacrifice fly by Michael Bell and a run-scoring infield single by Yost.

Charleston got on the board in the sixth on a two-out RBI double to right by Henry that plated Marcos Vechionacci all the way from first base. It was the only run charged to West Virginia starter Rafael Lluberes, who last six full innings and allowed six hits.

On the night, Charleston recorded 13 hits and Corona, Henry and Nunez each drove home a pair of runs. The Power was led offensively by Yost and Brantley with two hits each.

Dane Renkert (5-5), who entered the game with one out in the eighth, suffered the loss after pitching only 2/3 of an inning and permitting four runs on five hits.

The final contest of this four-game set is slated for Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. with Charleston sending lefty Zach Kroenke (5-5, 3.68 ERA) to the hill while West Virginia counters with righty Will Inman (6-1, 1.33 ERA).
