Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
SAVANNAH, Ga. - Savannah's offense put up one run in four different innings which was all John Lannan needed as he led the Sand Gnats to a 4-3 victory over the Lexington Legends Wednesday afternoon at Historic Grayson Stadium. Edgardo Baez led the Gnats at the dish with two RBI.
Lannan tied his season high with seven innings pitched and allowed just three runs on six hits in the effort. Lannan also tied his season high by fanning seven batters, and issued only one walk. Don Levinski pitched 1.2 innings of effective relief, allowing one hit with one strikeout, and Coby Mavroulis picked up his third save of the season, retiring the last batter of the game.
The Gnats got their first run in the bottom of the first when Dee Brown drilled a two-out triple to center then scored one batter later when Baez slipped a single through the right side of the infield.
After the Legends tied the game in the third on a solo home run, Savannah replied with a run of their own in the third when Rob Sandora and Francisco Plasencia led off with back-to-back singles. Ofilio Castro worked a walk to load the bases, and Brown again came through in the clutch with a sacrifice fly to right, giving the Gnats a 2-1 lead.
Reggie Fitzpatrick gave the Gnats breathing room in the fourth when he reached on a leadoff single and scored on a wild pitch, and Plasencia kept the Gnats on top with a leadoff double in the fifth, scoring on Baez' sacrifice fly.
