Salisbury, MD - The Greenville Drive were held in tact once again by the Delmarva Shorebirds for the majority of the game, but they scored when it mattered en route to a 3-2 victory Wednesday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Trailing 2-0, the Drive scored a run in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to pullout the victory, improving to 22-11 in the second half, trailing Augusta by four games in the Southern Division.

Ryan Phillips looked superb over the first 5.2 innings, limiting Delmarva to just two walks while mowing down seven. However, after retiring the first two batters in the sixth, Phillips ran into trouble, allowing a single to Blake Davis and then surrendering an RBI double to Vito Chiaravalloti to break the scoreless tie. Those back-to-back hits marked the end of the evening for Phillips as he gave way to Chad Rhoades.

Equally impressive for the Shorebirds was Brandon Erbe, Phillips' counterpart. Erbe tossed 5.0 shutout innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five before relinquishing his gem to the bullpen. The Drive took advantage of the situation by tying the game in the top of the seventh thanks to a solo homer by Tony Granadillo off Ryan Hamblet.

The Shorebirds would regain the lead in the bottom of the seventh with a run on three hits against Rhoades. Quincy Ascencion led off the frame with a double to left and advanced to third on Jarod Rine's single. A groundout by Stuart Musslewhite would plate Ascencion to give Delmarva a 2-1 lead.

Greenville would answer right back in their very next at bat to tie the game at two runs apiece. Christian Lara led off the inning with a single and advanced all the way to third when Mickey Hall reached on a fielding error by Mark Fleisher. Yahmed Yema then grounded into a fielder's choice, but it was good enough to score Lara.

Josh Potter came on in relief in the top of the ninth but yielded the same results as Hamblet versus Granadillo. The third baseman led off the inning with his second solo homer of the game, giving the Drive their first lead of the game.

Reliever Blake Maxwell, who had relieved Rhoades with two outs in the eighth, pitched a shutout ninth to earn the win. With the victory, Maxwell improved his record to 6-1 in 2006.

The Drive and Shorebirds conclude their four-game series Thursday night at Perdue Stadium with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Chris Jones will toe the rubber for Greenville as Delmarva counters with right-hander David Hernandez.

The Greenville Drive return home on Wednesday, August 2nd when they begin an eight-game home stand, starting with the Lake County Captains. Game time is set for 5:05 PM

Tickets to all Drive home games can be purchased by calling the Drive Ticket Office at 864-240-4528 or online at www.GreenvilleDrive.com.

NOTES: Tony Granadillo's two long balls marked the seventh time this season that a Drive player had homered twice in a game...This was the second time for Granadillo as he also did it May 29th vs. Augusta
