Catfish Bashed 9-3, Lose Third Straight to Hickory

Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (16-17) lost the third straight game to the Hickory Crawdads (17-16), this time by a score of 9-3 Wednesday at Golden Park. The Hickory offense was led by RF Brad Corley, who went 3-for-4 with one double, one home run, four RBI and three runs. One bright spot for Columbus was C Conor McGeehan. In the third inning McGeehan hit his first professional home run, a two-run blast to left field.

Hickory took a 4-0 lead with two runs in the second inning and two more in the third. In the bottom of the third Columbus got on the board with McGeehan's homer that scored CF Bridger Hunt, who left off the inning with a single.

Neither team scored for four innings until the Crawdads took a 5-2 lead with one run in the eighth inning. The Catfish responded with a run of their own in the bottom off the frame. 1B David Sutherland doubled to center field and later scored on a ground out by 3B Russ Mitchell. Hickory piled on with four ninth inning runs to finish off Columbus.

The loss went to RHP Arismendy Castillo (6-3), who allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks in three innings. RHP Jared Hughes (2-1) earned the win with a solid five inning performance. He was hit for just two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six. RHP Matt Swanson tossed the last two innings and picked up his tenth save.

The Catfish hope to avoid a series sweep when game four plays at 7:00pm Thursday. LHP Marlon Arias (7-4, 4.53) will start against RHP Todd Redmond (7-5, 2.98).
