Albany River Rats News Release
ALBANY, N.Y. - The Albany River Rats announced today that the AHL club will be assisting the Albany River Rats Booster Club in a fundraising event to benefit the Ronald McDonald House beginning at their game on Saturday, November 18, 2006 against the Philadelphia Phantoms at 5:00pm.
The River Rats Booster Club will be collecting items that are listed on the Ronald McDonald House Wish list at the game. Some of items on the Wish List include paper bowls, plastic forks and spoons, gift certificates for grocery stores and restaurants as well as national and international calling cards. There are two other scheduled Wish List nights to support the Ronald McDonald House during the 2006-07 season on January 20 and March 11.
"It is such a good feeling that comes from helping others and that feeling is amplified when you are helping people so young and so in need," said Booster Club President Tom Schamerhorn.
Fans can drop off Wish List items at the Booster Club table located behind section 105 during the above-mentioned home games as the River Rats begin their fifth season working with the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region provides comfort, support, and respite for families of seriously ill children. The organization provides a home-like environment with the Ronald McDonald House of Albany and the Family Room in the Children's Hospital at the Albany Medical Center, and awards grants to various programs in the community that strive to enhance the lives of children.
The River Rats will also team up with the Booster Club at Crossgates Mall to collect food for the Regional Food Bank on November 19th for the upcoming holiday season.
"We are pleased to be assisting some of the neediest charities in the Capital District again during this holiday season and working with our Booster Club allows us to step up and really make a difference," said Garen Szablewski, President of Capital District Sports, Inc.
The Albany River Rats, in their 14th season as members of the American Hockey League, are owned and operated by Capital District Sports Inc., and serve as the primary affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche.
