December 11, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release
Lars Pettersen and Barrie Moore propelled the Missouri River Otters to a 4-3 win Saturday night at the Family Arena, snapping Fort Wayne's seven-game winning streak.
The two teams traded goals in the first period, both on the power play. The Komets struck first, as Sean Venedam fired home the rebound of a Rob Guinn shot for his eighth goal of the season. The Otters tied the game with a fantastic goal on the man advantage. Chris Bell set up shop behind the net and threaded a perfect pass to Justin Quenneville, who rifled home a wrist shot above the glove of Komets goaltender Tyler Masters.
The River Otters dominated much of the second period, and took the lead halfway through. Moore started the play with a tremendous flip pass up the right wing to Pettersen. The Otters center sent a perfect pass to Mark Odut, who roofed the puck for his tenth goal of the season. Fort Wayne struck back a minute later when Jason Kean took a great feed from Dustin Virag and beat Otters goalie Kevin Reiter to tie the game at two.
Again the teams traded goals in the third period. The Otters took a 3-2 lead when Bob Rapoza smoked a Pettersen pass behind Masters for his third goal of the season. Ten minutes later the Komets tied the game at three, as Kean picked up a loose puck and slid home his second tally of the game.
In the shootout, Pettersen and Moore scored for the Otters, while only Colin Chaulk could muster a goal for Fort Wayne. Reiter made 27 saves and earned his seventh win of the year, while Masters made 24 saves in the shootout loss.
The Otters play tomorrow afternoon against Muskegon at the Family Arena. The puck drops at 12:35 CST, and all the action can be heard on the B2 Webcast, located at www.riverotters.com.
