Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League jumped out to the early lead and fought off an offensive charge while defeating the Danbury Trashers 4-3 in front of 3,443 at Perani Arena on Friday night. Right wing Rob Valicevic led the charge with two goals and one assist.
Flint jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead two goals by Valicevic (11th & 12th) at 1:03 and 19:08. Sandwiched in between was a goal by Jim Duhart (11) at 7:53. Danbury closed the gap to 3-1 in the second period on a goal by Mike Bayrack (12) at 12:08. Flint reclaimed the three-goal cushion as center Chad Grills (2) pounced on a rebound to beat Trashers' goaltender Guilliuame Lavallee at 16:48 for a 4-1 lead after the second period.
Danbury scored two third period power play goals to make it too close for comfort as left wing Jeff Daw scored both goals at 1:25 and 13:44. Daw's second goal was a crazy bounce off the back of the dasher board that squirted out in front of the net resulting in a goal-mouth scramble and ultimately, the goal that made it 4-3.
The Generals fought off one last-ditch effort for the equalizer as the Dashers pulled Lavallee for the extra attacker in the final minute but the Generals hold on to preserve the victory. Goaltender Marco Emond (8-4-1) stopped 33 of 36 shots for the victory. Player/Assistant Coach Bobby Reynolds reached a milestone 500th career assist on Valicevic's second goal of the game late in the first period.
Flint (13-8-3, 29 pts.) is still in first place in the Central Division of the United Hockey League. The Trashers (17-8-1, 35 pts.) still hold on to first place in the Eastern Conference as they travel to Kalamazoo on Saturday night.
