Generals defense stands tall in 4-1 victory over Elmira

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League continue strong defensive play in shutting down the Elmira Jackals 4-1 in front of 3,573 at Perani Arena on Saturday night.

Flint jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on power play goals by Player/Assistant Coach Bobby Reynolds (9) at 3:18 and Jim Duhart with the game-winning goal at 18:06. Flint increased their lead to 3-0 on a second period goal by right wing Mike Kinnie (16) at 5:34.

It would stay that way until the third period when John DiPace (7) out-hustled the entire Jackal team to beat goaltender Kevin Kirk to make it a 4-0 Flint score at the 4:37 mark. The only Jackal goal was scored in the last minute by Darren Van Oene (3) at 19:20 of the third period spoiling goaltender Dan McIntyre's shutout bid. McIntyre stopped 29 of 30 shots for his 6th victory of the season.

The Generals (14-8-3, 31 points) is in first place in the Central Division, two points ahead of the Muskegon Fury, who dropped a 3-1 decision at Rockford on Saturday night. Elmira is 0-4-1 in their last five games and wrap up their weekend road trip at Fort Wayne tomorrow afternoon.

The Generals hit the road for games in Adirondack on Friday, December 17th and Saturday, December 18th along with a return visit to Elmira on Sunday afternoon December 19th.
