Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs returned home from a three-game weekend road trip and knocked off the Quad City Mallards 5-3 at the Rockford MetroCentre in front of 3,760 on Friday night. The IceHogs victory was their fifth of the season against their rivals, tying a franchise high for most wins in a season against Quad City.

Rockford jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Winger Bruce Watson slammed home the first tally of the night at 5:12 set up nicely by Brent Sullivan and Eric Labelle. Then on a power play, center J.C. Ruid blasted home a marker at 8:45 to give Rockford the two-goal advantage.

In the second period, the Mallards capitalized on a 2-on-1 breakaway after rookie winger Mike Kompon tipped in a Frantisk Skladany pass at 8:43. The IceHogs got the goal back, however, when rookie winger Miguel Lafleche picked up a rebound and flipped it over Mallards goalie Jeff Reynaert at 13:09.

Center Olivier Proulx gave the Hogs a 4-1 cushion at 3:12 of the third, surprising Reynaert with a slap-shot from the blue-line. The Mallards wouldn't go away easily and things got interesting with two power play goals. Sergei Durdin fired in the first marker at 11:31 on the man advantage before Kompon slipped his second goal of the night in at 14:33 to make the score 4-3.

But after the Mallards pulled Reynaert, defenseman Ryan Bonni nailed a full-length ice shot at 19:04 to seal the game for the Hogs. Rockford puck stopper Michel Robinson finished the contest with 23 saves to earn the win. Wingers J.F. Dufour and Terry Harrison each had two assists for Rockford.

Next Home Game: Saturday, December 11 vs. Muskegon Fury. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs and Fury meet for the second time this season.
