River Otters Blitz IceHogs 6-3 as Littlejohn Scores Hat Trick

February 16, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release

Frank Littlejohn scored a hat-trick in the second period as the Missouri River Otters blitzed the Rockford IceHogs 6-3 Wednesday night at the Family Arena.

Rockford scored the game's first goal, as Chris Gobert took a pass from Olivier Proulx and slid the puck into the net. The goal was scored less than five minutes into the game, and was the first goal the River Otters had allowed in 176 minutes and 53 seconds. Missouri responded five minutes later with a goal of their own, as Jim Montgomery got a great feed from Ryan Johnson and rifled the puck behind IceHogs goaltender Michel Robinson. Unfortunately for the River Otters, a defensive breakdown led to a Rockford goal with less than one minute remaining in the period. Alex Kim had the puck in the slot and fed a great pass to J.F. Dufour at the side of the net, and Dufour scored his 18th goal of the season.

The River Otters put on an offensive clinic in the second period, scoring five goals against the IceHogs. Frank Littlejohn got the scoring started less than two minutes into the middle period, and his goal was followed by power play markers from Mike Dombkiewicz and Mark Odut. Fourteen minutes into the period Littlejohn scored his second goal, and only 22 seconds later he beat an IceHogs defender to the puck and scored on a breakaway to complete the hat-trick.

Rockford's J.C. Ruid scored the only goal in the third period, but it wasn't enough, and the River Otters won 6-3. Jason Tapp made 26 saves in the victory, while Robinson made 27 saves in defeat.

The River Otters play the K-Wings Friday night at Wings Stadium. The puck drops at 6:30 CST, and all the action can be heard on the B2 Webcast, which can be found at www.riverotters.com!
