Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento River Cats (30-33) were thrown out on the base paths three times in a 7-2 loss to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (32-28) on Saturday night.
The Sacramento offense made things challenging for themselves on Saturday by running into three outs on the base paths. Center fielder Steven Duggar led off the bottom of the first with a single to extend his hitting streak to nine games, but was caught stealing shortly thereafter. Second baseman Chase d'Arnaud later doubled in the second but was thrown out at third attempting to stretch it into his fifth triple of the season. And in the fifth, catcher Ryan Hanigan rounded first base after a single but was gunned down at second base.
The River Cats made some noise late when Austin Slater and Ryder Jones smacked back-to-back extra-base hits, and d'Arnaud added a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 6-2. But that's where the comeback would end, as Sacramento dropped game two of the series.
Southpaw Daniel Camarena (0-0, 0.51) will make his fourth start of the year for the River Cats, while the Sky Sox will send young righty Freddy Peralta (6-1, 2.88) to the mound. Catch all of the action live online at rivercats.com, on the MiLB First Pitch app, and on the air on Money 105.FM.
Additional Notes
- Austin Slater's seventh-inning double was his 20th of the season in just 188 plate appearances, tying the second most two-baggers he's had in a minor league season since being drafted out of Stanford in 2014.
- The River Cats' loss was just their second this season on a Saturday in nine total games.
