Mora of the Story: Dodgers Win, 4-2

Fresno, Calif. - Angelo Mora hit a go-ahead two-run homer and finished with three hits and three RBI to lead the Oklahoma City Dodgers to a 4-2 win over the Fresno Grizzlies Saturday at Chukchansi Park.

Trailing, 2-1, in the top of the seventh inning, the Dodgers had a runner at first base with two outs when Mora came to the plate. He then lined a 3-2 pitch from Trent Thornton over the right field fence to give the Dodgers the lead at 3-2.

Mora finished with a team-high three hits, including a triple and a RBI single in the ninth. The only time he was retired was in his second at-bat of the night in the fifth inning, lining out to center field. It's also the only time in his last 12 plate appearances he's been retired, and over his last three games, Mora is now 8-for-10 with five RBI.

Down by one, the Grizzlies put the leadoff batter on base in the bottom of the seventh, but Dodgers reliever Brian Schlitter struck out each of the next three batters.

The Grizzlies (37-25) threatened again in the eighth, with Tyler White and A.J. Reed starting off the inning back-to-back singles. J.D. Davis game up next and sent a line drive toward the middle of the field, and Dodgers second baseman Kyle Farmer made a leaping catch for the first out. On the very next pitch, Schlitter got Derek Fisher to hit into a double play to end the inning.

The Dodgers (36-22) added to their lead in the ninth after having the bases empty and one out to get some more breathing room. Rob Segedin walked, and Rocky Gale followed with a broken-bat single to put runners at the corners. Mora then stepped up and sent a RBI single to right-center field to swell the lead to 4-2.

Joe Broussard pitched the bottom of the ninth and retired the side in order to close out the win and earn his third save.

Saturday's game was tight throughout, and until the ninth inning, was either tied or played within one run the whole contest. Each team got on the board in the first inning. Andrew Toles led off the game with a double and scored two batters later on a RBI single by Alex Verdugo.

White answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run to even the score at 1-1.

Each team had chances to score over the next few innings, but the game stayed tied until the bottom the sixth. Reed led off the inning with his second homer in as many days, giving the Grizzlies a 2-1 lead.

For the second straight night, the Dodgers were forced to piece together all nine innings with the bullpen. Chad Girodo started the game and pitched the first two innings. Newcomer Andrew Istler followed with three scoreless frames in his Triple-A debut and notched four strikeouts. Jason Richman also made his team debut and pitched the sixth inning and faced one batter in the seventh before giving way to Schlitter. Richman (1-0) ended up being the pitcher of record and was credited with the win.

The quintet of OKC pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts and held Fresno 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Fresno only needed two pitchers throughout the game, as Thornton (4-4) tossed a season-high seven innings in the loss. He allowed three runs and eight hits, with one walk and five strikeouts.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak at Chukchansi Park for Oklahoma City and was the team's first win in Fresno since Aug. 15, 2014.
