Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Omaha southpaw Jake Kalish fired five nearly flawless innings, supported by four shutout frames combined between Wily Peralta and Kevin Lenik , while shortstop Adalberto Mondesi crushed a solo home run in a 2-0 victory over Albuquerque in front of 6,863 fans on Saturday evening at Werner Park. Saturday's contest featured a "food fight", with Storm Chasers players and coaches wearing Omaha Runzas jerseys on Runza Night, while the Isotopes wore Albuquerque Green Chile Cheeseburgers uniforms.
Kalish (5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K) feasted on Green Chile Cheeseburgers batters, facing just one batter above the minimum over his five excellent frames to earn his second win. Runzas relievers Peralta (3.1 IP, 3 H, 4 K) and Lenik (0.2 IP, K) kept the Albuquerque's offense cool, with Peralta receiving his third hold and Lenik notching his second save. Green Chile Cheeseburgers starter Yency Almonte (6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) suffered the defeat despite a quality outing, with Shane Broyles (2.0 IP, 2 K) following with two perfect innings of relief.
Appropriately, the Runzas were the only team to score runs on Saturday evening, beginning with an RBI double by 3B Corey Toups in the second. One frame later, Mondesi mashed a solo homer to straightaway center field, his fifth longball with Omaha this year, for an insurance tally.
Mondesi thanks to that big fly has now recorded hits in 12 of his last 14 contests dating back to May 24. Runzas 1B Ryan O'Hearn (2-3, R), meanwhile, was the lone batter from either side to record a multi-hit effort. With the victory, Omaha has now won ten of their last 12 matchups at Werner Park.
The two teams continue their four-game set with a Sunday matinee at Werner Park, with first pitch scheduled for 2:05 p.m. CT. RHP Glenn Sparkman (3-0, 3.86) is anticipated to toe the rubber for Omaha, with LHP Brett Oberholtzer (2-4, 5.40) slated to climb the hill for Albuquerque.
Tickets are still available for that game and all remaining Storm Chasers home dates in 2018, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
