LANSING, Mich. - Aided by the strong relief of Phil Kish, the Lansing Lugnuts (10-12) defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods (6-16), 6-5, on Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium, taking the rubber match of the three-game series.

The Lugs closed out the home stand with a 6-1 record over Lake County and Bowling Green, and moved into sole possession of fifth place in the Midwest League Eastern Division standings.

After swapping the lead through the first four frames, the Lugnuts took the lead for good in the fifth on sacrifice fly by right fielder Derrick Loveless.

Bowling Green threatened in the top of the sixth, putting runners on the corners with no outs off of starting pitcher Jeremy Gabryszwski. Lansing called on Kish (Win, 1-0), who sat down James Harris on strikes and threw out Pat Blair trying to score on a squeeze bunt by Juniel Querecuto. Kish extinguished the inning by striking Keon Wong.

Lansing added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth, and reliever Griffin Murphy (Save, 1) closed out the ninth.

The Lugnuts touched up Bowling Green reliever Brad Schreiber (Loss, 0-2) for three unearned runs in his three innings of work.

Loveless finished the afternoon 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk while scoring a run and recording his second stolen base of the season.

Jason Leblebijian knocked a pair of doubles and drove in a run. Lansing also received RBIs from Dickie Joe Thon, Justin Atkinson, and Ian Parmley.

The Lugnuts hit the road to begin a four-game series at Dayton on Monday night. Right-hander Chase De Jong (0-0, 4.61) will start on the mound for Lansing, squaring off against Dragons lefty Ismael Guillon (1-0, 1.16).
