Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill- The Cougars might not want to leave Fifth Third Bank Ballpark as the team concluded a 6-1 seven game home stand with their sixth straight win. The 10-2 victory over the Timber Rattlers (10-12) increased the Cougars Midwest League leading record to 17-6.
For the second straight game the Timber Rattlers were first to score. Jen-Ho Tseng struggled to find control throughout the opening frame. Tseng loaded the bases with a hit by pitch and two walks, before getting Clint Coulter to ground into a double play. Coulter's grounder scored a run, but Tseng struck out Chris McFarland to end the inning only allowing one run.
Yasiel Balaguert produced another RBI in his first at-bat after his walk-off single on Saturday, as he drove home Jake Hannemann to tie the ball game up 1-1.
Another four-run frame gave the Cougars the lead over the Timber Rattlers, but this time it came earlier in the ballgame. The Cougars recorded four straight singles off from Danny Canela, Will Remillard, Daniel Lockhart and Jordan Hankins. Lock hart and Hankins drove in the first two runs for a 3-1 Cougars' advantage. Hannemann delivered another run scoring play connecting on the fifth single of the inning and scoring Hankins and Shawon Dunston Jr. for a 5-1 Cougars advantage.
The offense would not stop for the next pair of innings as the Cougars plated three runs in the sixth, beginning with a Remillard solo homerun. Remillard's first blast of the year made it 6-1 Cougars. Lockhart and Hankins continued with singles, as Hannemann brought home both of them with a single for an 8-1 Cougars' advantage. The team picked up a couple of more runs an inning later as Remillard added to his RBI total with a two-run double.
Wisconsin slipped in a run in the top of the seventh on a Clint Coulter RBI single.
Tseng (2-0) picked up the win allowing only one hit and one walk through five innings. The Cougar starter walked four batters, but struck out seven. Barrett Astin (3-2) suffered the loss giving up eight runs on 12 hits through five and one-third innings.
The Cougars will now head east for a four-game road trip visiting the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Paul Blackburn (2-0, 3.10) will reset the team's rotation against Cedar Rapids' Ryan Eades (1-3, 4.43). First pitch from Iowa is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with a pregame at 6:20 p.m. on AM 1280 WBIG and kccougars.com.
