Bowling Green Drops Series Finale in Lansing

Lansing, Mich. - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) offense pounded out 14 more hits, but it was not enough as the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays) rallied from two different deficits to take the win on Sunday afternoon, 6-5. Despite the loss, the Hot Rods close out the seven-game road trip with a 4-3 record.

The Hot Rods struck first in the top of the second. Oscar Hernandez led off with a single, and moved up to second when Ty Young drew a walk. James Harris delivered a line-drive single to center field to score Hernandez. The lead was short-lived, as Lansing plated three in their half of the second. It was highlighted by a run-scoring double by Jason Leblebijian.

Bowling Green would tie the game with two runs in the third. With one out, Johnny Field singled to right field. He proceeded to steal second ahead of a walk to Darryl George. A double-steal moved the runners to second and third, which setup Hernandez with a two-run single to even the game. The Hot Rods would go in front in the fourth thanks to a groundout by Kean Wong that drove home James Harris from third base.

After tying the game in the fifth, Lansing scored two to take the lead for good in the sixth. Justin Atkinson led off with a single. He was moved to second base on a bunt, then scored when D.J. Davis reached on an error. Davis would come around on a groundout.

The Hot Rods would score their final run of the game in the seventh. George hit a one-out single to left field, and came around to score when Hernandez doubled to left field. The run cut the lead to just one, but the Lugnuts were able to hang on for the win.

Brad Schreiber (0-2) allowed three unearned runs to be handed the loss. Phil Kish (1-0) worked three innings out of the Lugnut bullpen. He allowed one unearned run was recorded his first victory of the season.

The Hot Rods head home to open up a seven-game homestand at Bowling Green Ballpark beginning Monday night. Bowling Green will welcome in the South Bend Silver Hawks (Arizona Diamondbacks) for the first-half of the homestand. First pitch Monday night is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on a Pepsi Buck Monday. Hot dogs and select Pepsi products will be just one dollar, and gates will open at 6 p.m.
