Chiefs Win Streak Snapped in 15-3 Sunday Loss

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs win streak was snapped at five games as they dropped the final game of their six-game homestand 15-3 on Sunday afternoon to the Quad Cities River Bandits. Jimmy Bosco scored two runs in the loss which drops the Chiefs to 13-8 on the season.

Quad Cities got the scoring started with the first batter of the game as Brett Phillips put a 1-1 pitch from Chase Brookshire over the wall in left. They scored again in the first on a single, wild pitch and two ground outs. The Chiefs scored one in the bottom half when Bosco ripped the first pitch of the inning into the right field corner for a double. Bosco moved to third on a ground out and scored on a Carson Kelly ground out.

The River Bandits tallied two more in the second. Jobduan Morales doubled and Jon Kemmer singled him home. Phillips drove in his second run of the game with a single to plate Kemmer.

Quad Cities scored four more in the fifth to take an 8-1 lead. Chris Thomas came in for Brookshire with the bases loaded and one out. On a two-strike pitch he hit James Ramsay to force in a run. Morales singled in two and Thomas Lindauer singled in the final run of the frame.

A five-run sixth against Blake McKnight put the game away for the River Bandits. Morales singled in his third run of the game and Lindauer singled in a pair. With two outs, Ronald Castillo dropped a fly ball to right to allow a couple of unearned runs to score and Quad Cities led 13-1.

The Chiefs got two in the bottom half when Bosco reached on an error, got to second on a wild pitch and scored on Juan Herrera's double. Herrera scored on Castillo's sac fly. Quad Cities got back-to-back homers to open the eighth from Morales and Kemmer to end the scoring.

The Chiefs loaded the bases with one out in the ninth on a Castillo single, Steve Bean walk, and Jake Stone hit-by-pitch. Prior to the first pitch of Mason Katz' at-bat, the game was delayed due to lightning, and ultimately called off with the 15-3 final score.

Brookshire (0-3) worked the first 4 1/3 innings giving up seven runs on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts, taking the loss. Thomas got the final two outs of the fifth inning allowing three inherited runners to score and one of his own. Thomas walked one and struck out two. McKnight tossed four innings yielding seven runs, five earned, on seven hits with three walks and a strikeout.
