Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves bounced back to defeat Altoona 5-3 on Thursday.
Wilmer Flores started for Erie and allowed a first-inning run. Lolo Sanchez led off with a double and later scored on Matt Gorski's RBI single.
Altoona scratched out a second run in the third inning. With two out and Sanchez at fist following his second hit, Jackson Glenn drove a double into the left-field corner to score Sanchez.
Altoona starter Anthony Solometo faced the minimum through three innings, allowing just a base hit to Trei Cruz to open the game. Cruz opened the fourth inning with his second hit. Justice Bigbie then tied the game on a two-run home run. Wenceel Perez followed with a single, stole second, and advanced to third on a balk. Dillon Dingler singled him home to give Erie a 3-2 lead.
Flores worked through a difficult fourth inning in which he threw 32 pitches. Chavez Young's double play grounder helped Flores escape a bases-loaded jam with no runs allowed, but the taxing inning ended Flores' day.
Layne Henderson entered for Flores and retired the first six batters he faced. Then, in the seventh, Drew Maggi walked and advanced to second on a balk. Young then singled to center to score Maggi and tie the game at three.
Geronimo Franzua made his Double-A debut in relief for Altoona. In the eighth inning, the left-hander faced Diego Rincones with a man on base. Rincones untied the game with a two-run blast. It was his second home run in as many days.
Adam Wolf and Andrew Magno each worked a hitless inning. Magno recorded his fourth save with a perfect ninth. Henderson (1-0) earned the win and Franzua (0-1) took the loss.
The series continues on Friday at 6:00 p.m. as Brant Hurter opposed Aaron Shortridge.
