Arkansas RimRockers News Release
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Feb. 9 - RimRockers guard Clay Tucker showed why he was elected to the D-League All-Star Game, scoring 12 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, as the Arkansas RimRockers defeated the Fort Worth Flyers 117-112 Friday night in front of 4,417 fans at Alltel Arena.
"He (Tucker) showed up as the All-Star that he is," said RimRockers Head Coach Andy Stoglin. "The right people took the shots, and we got the ball to the right people at the right time. When it's winning time, the best shooters need to take the shot."
Arkansas enjoyed their first home victory in over two months improving their record to 8-19. The Eastern Division leading Flyers (18-9) continued to struggle against the RimRockers, losing for the second time in three games. The RimRockers last home victory came against the same Flyers on December 8th, and hadn't won a game at Alltel Arena since defeating the then winless Toros on December 5th.
After a Terrance Thomas 3-pointer tied the game at 109, Tucker, who also ended the night with a game high 12 assists, hit jump shots on three consecutive possessions in the last 1:49 of the game.
"That's my time," Tucker said. "I don't care what I did the rest of the game. With 2 minutes left in the game, I want the ball. I want to take every shot. I know I can do it."
The RimRockers again struggled in the third quarter, being outscored 39-27. After blowing the 11 point halftime lead, the teams went back and forth until Tucker's shots sealed the win for the RimRockers.
Leading the way for the RimRockers, Roger Powell poured in 22 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 5 assists. Continuing to impress in the RimRockers new up-tempo offense was Olu Famutimi who added 19 and 5 boards.
Flyers center Luke Schenscher recorded his 6th double-double of the season with a game-high 23 points and 14 rebounds. Kevin Burleson knocked down 4 3-pointers and ended the game with 20 points.
The Flyers were without Pops Mensah-Bonsu, who was recalled by the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, but received strong play from their other NBA assigned player, Maurice Ager who notched 16 points and 10 assists.
