The Rochester Red Wings dropped a 4-2 decision to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Saturday evening at Frontier Field, in front of 8,450 fans on Batman Night. The teams wrap up the series with a Sunday matinee starting at 1:05 p.m.
Rochester plated the first run of the game in the third against RailRiders starter Nestor Cortes after back-to-back singles from Zack Granite and Nick Gordon to open the inning. With one out and the pair on base, Chris Carter grounded into what looked to be an inning-ending double play. Instead, a throwing error on the relay by Scranton second basemen L.J. Mazzilli allowed Granite to score, giving the Wings a 1-0 lead.
After allowing a one-out double to Tyler Austin in the top of the sixth inning, Rochester starting pitcher Aaron Slegers surrendered a two-run home run to Brandon Drury, giving Scranton a 2-1 lead.
Cortes' night ended after five innings of work. He allowed one run on six hits while walking two and striking out three. Cortes threw 91 pitches, 64 for strikes.
The Wings turned the ball over to Luke Bard in the seventh inning after Slegers loaded the bases with one out. Slegers' line was completed after Ronald Torreyes scored on a sacrifice fly from Tyler Wade, giving Scranton a 3-1 lead. Slegers went 6.1 innings allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out four. He threw 95 pitches, 66 for strikes.
Scranton scored an insurance run in the eighth inning after Granite mis-read a fly ball which allowed for Billy McKinney to reach third base with one out. After putting men on the corners following a walk, Bruce Caldwell singled home McKinney to give the RailRiders a 4-1 lead.
The Wings cut the deficit and scored the game's final run in the eighth inning after Willians Astudillodoubled home Gordon, leaving the RailRiders with a 4-2 lead.
Bard threw 1.2 innings in relief allowing one run on two hits while registering a pair of strikeouts. Gabriel Moya came on in the ninth and pitched a scoreless inning, setting Scranton down in order.

1982- Red Wing DH Tim Derryberry hit two home runs with a borrowed bat to lead the Wings over the Tidewater Tides, 9-8. The win put the Red Wings over .500 for the first time all season.

1981 - More than two months after it started, Rochester and Pawtucket play out the conclusion to the longest game in baseball history. The game began April 18 and was still tied 2-2 at the end of the 32nd inning, just after the clock had passed 4:00 a.m. Under a national media spotlight, the two teams resume action on June 23, when Pawtucket's Dave Koza drives home the game winning run with a single in the bottom of the 33rd frame. 13 professional baseball records were broken in this game. Several future stars participated, including Rochester's Cal Ripken, Jr. and Pawtucket's Wade Boggs. The official scorecard, compiled by Bill George, was later presented to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

1917 - Boston pitcher Babe Ruth starts against Washington. He walks leadoff man Eddie Foster, griping to plate umpire Brick Owens after each pitch. On ball four, Ruth plants a right to the umpire's jaw. He is ejected, and Ernie Shore relieves. Foster is caught stealing, and Shore retires all 26 men he faces in a 4-0 win, getting credit in the books for a perfect game.
1932 - Lou Gehrig plays his 1,103rd successive game in a Yankees uniform, equaling Joe Sewell's record with one team (Cleveland).
1988 - George Steinbrenner fires Billy Martin for the fifth time, replacing him with Lou Piniella. In 1985, Piniella was fired and replaced by Martin.
