Nick Senzel to Have Season-Ending Surgery

Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Cincinnati Reds announced that IF Nick Senzel will have season-ending surgery to repair a torn tendon in his right index finger, an injury he suffered in Friday night's game.

In 44 apps for Class AAA Louisville this season, Senzel hit .310 (53-for-171) with 23 runs, 12 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs, 25 RBI and 8 stolen bases. His .310 batting average currently ranks 5th in the International League.

Senzel left Friday night's Louisville Bats game against the Norfolk Tides in the middle of the first inning at Louisville Slugger Field, being lifted for pinch-hitter Hernan Iribarren to start the bottom of the first.

The 22-year-old has an active 11-game hitting streak, batting .440 (22-for-50) since the streak began on June 9, leading IL batters in batting average and hits during that span.

When he debuted with Louisville, No. 7 prospect Senzel was the first Baseball America Top 10 prospect to appear in a game for the Bats since LHP Aroldis Chapman in 2011, and the first position player since OF Jay Bruce in 2008.
