'Riders Outlast Missions to Take Game Three

FRISCO, TEXAS- Engel Beltre led the way with an RBI triple and solo home run as Frisco defeated San Anonio 4-3 Wednesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

RoughRiders and Missions starters Jake Brigham and Matt Jackson combined to throw four scoreless innings before San Antonio struck in the fifth. Brigham induced a pop out and then struck out Jeudy Valdez before allowing back-to-back singles. With two Missions' on the bases, first baseman Nathan Freiman hit a double bringing in two runs. Cody Decker brought around Freiman to score after doubling to right field making the score 3-0. A fly out by Edinson Rincon ended the inning.

Frisco rallied back in the bottom of the frame. A throwing error by shortstop Jeudy Valdez allowed Jose Felix to reach first safely. Engel Beltre then scored Felix after hitting his 12th triple of the season, adding to the single season triples record which he broke on July 7. A sac fly by Jurickson Profar brought in Beltre to score giving San Antonio a one-run advantage.

Beltre evened the game at three runs apiece after hitting a solo home run in the seventh off of Missions' reliever Michael Broadway. Frisco's winning run crossed the plate in the bottom of the eighth. San Antonio reliever Thomas Layne quickly struck out Chris McGuiness and Ryan Strausborger before walking Jared Hoying. Layne was replaced by Daniel Stange to force a righty-righty matchup against Alex Buchholz who he then walked. A double by Val Majewski brought Hoying in to score. With runners on second and third, Jose Felix stepped in the box an hit a line drive which was caught by first baseman Freiman.

'Riders relievers Ryan Rodebaugh and Ross Wolf combined to toss four scoreless innings shutting the Missions down and sealing the first Frisco win of the series.

Missions' reliever Thomas Layne is tagged with his fifth loss of the season pitching for 0.2 innings allowing no hits and one run while walking one and striking out two. Frisco reliever Ross Wolf picked up his first win of the season pitching for two innings allowing one hit and no runs with one walk and one strikeout.

The RoughRiders play the series finale against the Missions Thursday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Wilfredo Boscan (4-3, 3.76) gets the start for Frisco. He will be opposed by right-handed hurler Keyvius Sampson (5-8, 5.27). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 1630 KKGM or on ridersbaseball.com.
