Riders Earn Split in Series over Missions

July 22, 2018 - Texas League (TL1)
San Antonio Missions News Release

FRISCO-Jesse Scholtens allowed a career-high 13 hits as the Missions dropped the series finale to the Roughriders, 7-3, Sunday night at Dr. Pepper Ballpark.

The game was the final one that San Antonio will ever play in Frisco, as the club will move up to Triple-A next season.

Scholtens was in trouble throughout the majority of his 6 2/3 innings but got four double plays to help bail him out of several jams.

The right-hander had had allowed as many as four runs once in his first 10 starts with San Antonio this season. He was charged with all seven runs on Sunday.

Taylor Kohlwey homered for the Missions and Buddy Reed doubled home a pair of runs.

San Antonio had a chance to get closer in the eighth inning following Reed's double.

Josh Naylor singled to short and Ty France walked to load the bases for cleanup hitter Austin Allen.

Allen proceeded to put the first pitch into play and rolled into a 4-6-3 twin killing to end the threat.

The Missions catcher is 0 for 13 this season with the bases loaded.

The Missions return home tonight to begin a critical seven-game homestand against first-place Corpus Christi and the Roughridgers.
