Hooks Settle for Split in Permian Basin

MIDLAND - The RockHounds scored seven runs over the final three frames Sunday afternoon, upending Corpus Christi, 8-4, to force a split of the four-game series at Security Bank Ballpark.

The Hooks outhit Midland, 11-6, but the homestanding Hounds capitalized on nine Corpus Christi walks.

Akeem Bostick turned in a terrific start for the Hooks, yielding one unearned run and two hits over five innings of work. Bostick struck out six and walked one. After surrendering a lead-off double in the first. the right-hander from Florence, SC proceeded to retire 13 in a row.

With men at the corners and one out in the third, Josh Rojas and Randy Cesar engineered a double steal to swipe the first Hooks run.

Midland tied the score in the fifth before taking the lead against Jorge Alcala in the sixth. Alcala walked the first two batters and an infield single loaded the bases for Seth Brown, who lifted a sac fly to left field. Tyler Marincov was next and cracked a two-run single, putting the RockHounds ahead, 4-1.

Carmen Benedetti pulled the Hooks to within a run in the seventh thanks to his fourth home run of the year, a two-run blast into the right-field bullpen off Joel Seddon.

The Hounds responded by sending seven men to the plate against Ronel Blanco in the home half.

Midland iced the game with two more markers in the eighth. The damage came on four walks, a hit batsman and sacrifice fly.

Alex De Goti led Corpus Christi offensively, going 4-for-4 with a double. The Hooks stranded 11 on the afternoon, going 0-for-13 with men in scoring position.

Brandon Bielak (2-1, 0.82) is slated to start Monday night in San Antonio. The Missions will send Jacob Nix (1-2, 1.88) to the hill. First pitch 7:05.
