Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, dropped the series opener to the Midland RockHounds in a back-and-forth battle Saturday night by a score of 4-3 in front of 9,419 fans at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
Both teams let leads slip away once in the game but ultimately, it was the RockHounds (18-11) who came out victorious. With the game tied 3-3 in the top of the seventh, Andy Paz hit a go-ahead solo home run off Matt Bush (0-2) that ultimately served as the decisive run in the game. It was Paz's first homer since 2014 and the only hit Bush allowed in two innings of relief.
Frisco (21-7) and Midland combined to hit a total of three home runs in the game. Lewis Brinson launched a solo homer, his third long ball of the year, to left-center field to lead off the bottom of the sixth that tied the game at 3-3. An inning earlier, Ryon Healy hit a two-run home run off Sam Wolff to put the RockHounds in front 3-2 at the time.
Wolff became the third RoughRiders pitcher to set a new career-high in strikeouts this week. He fanned 10 batters and only allowed three hits in five innings of work. He received early run support on Alex Burg's RBI groundout in the second and Ronald Guzman's two-out RBI single in the fourth. However, the RockHounds tagged Wolff for three runs on two hits in the fifth, including Healy's home run, to leave him with a no-decision.
The loss snapped Frisco's four-game win streak. It was also the first time the Riders lost a series opener this year, dropping them to 8-1 in those contests.
The Riders continue their four-game series against the Midland RockHounds, the second-place team in the Texas League South division, Sunday at 4:05 p.m. Victor Payano (3-0, 3.18 ERA) is scheduled to make the start for Frisco against Dylan Covey (2-1, 1.91 ERA) for the RockHounds.
