Riders Drop a Pair to Hooks in Double Header

FRISCO, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders fell in both games of Saturday's doubleheader in front of the franchise's third highest attended game at Dr Pepper Ballpark. 11,647 fans saw the Riders fall to the Corpus Christi Hooks 10-5 and 16-1.

In game one, the Riders scored in the first inning for the third consecutive game. Chris Garia led off with his first triple of the season and J.T. Wise laced an RBI-double down the left field line to give the Riders a 1-0 lead. Jorge Alfaro then drove in Wise with a two out single to make it 2-0 Frisco.

The Hooks answered quickly, scoring four runs in the second inning. Colin Moran continued his hot hitting with a bases clearing three-run double to give Corpus Christi a 4-2 advantage.

The Hooks added another five runs in the top of the third with Tyler White and Moran both knocking two-run singles.

Frisco starter Jose Leclerc (1-1) and Josh McElwee combined to pitch three innings giving up nine earned runs on nine hits while walking five. Leclerc fell to 1-1 after Saturday's loss.

Hooks starter Josh Hader threw four innings giving up four runs on five hits walking one and striking out five. Travis Ballew (1-1) went two innings in relief to earn the win for the Hooks. The Rockwall, Texas native pitched two scoreless innings in the win.

J.T. Wise hit his second home run of the season in the third inning for the Riders. Wise snapped a 0-for-17 stretch with a three-hit game, driving in a pair of runs. Corpus Christi's Moran batted in five Hooks while going three-for-four at the dish.

Game two of the doubleheader featured the return of reigning Texas Rangers Minor League Player of the Year Joey Gallo.

Frisco starter Victor Payano was dealt with some unlucky fortune in the third inning with the Hooks scoring eight unearned runs. Jiovanni Mier and Carlos Correa both hit home runs in the frame. Payano saw 21 hitters in 2 2/3 innings.

Right-handed starter Chris Devenski (2-0) starred, throwing 6 1/3 innings of no-hit ball earning the win for the Hooks. Devenski struck out eight before manager Rodney Linares pulled him with one out in the seventh inning and 87 pitches thrown.

Jorge Alfaro collected the Riders first hit in the seventh inning off Jandel Gustave. Nick Williams ended the shutout bid with a double to score Alfaro.

Frisco (5-10) and Corpus Christi (11-4) will wrap up the home stand Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. as Frisco's RHP Alec Asher (0-1) faces off against the Hooks' RHP Lance McCullers (1-0).
