Frisco RoughRiders News Release
LAST GAME: Frisco was blanked, 2-0, by the Midland RockHounds last night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Clayton Hamilton suffered his first loss for Frisco, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings. Right fielder Joey Butler saw his 16-game hitting streak come to an end as he finished 0-4 with two strikeouts. Frisco only managed four hits as a team.
FINAL COUNTDOWN: Frisco has just 9 games remaining in the regular season, with five of the final nine coming against second half leader, Midland. The RoughRiders trail the RockHounds by just two games in the second half standings and the series this weekend could determine who wins the division title for the second half.
EPIC BATTLES: The 'Riders have played in 14 extra inning games this season, with seven of those games coming against the San Antonio Missions. Frisco is 5-2 in extras against the Missions and holds the best record in the league when it comes to extra frames (10-4).
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE: The RoughRiders have been able to take care of business at home against Midland, holding a 7-5 record at Dr Pepper Ballpark against the RockHounds. The road has been a different story, however, as Frisco is just 5-6 at Midland.
BUTLER STREAKING DOWN THE STRETCH: Joey Butler saw his second 16-game hitting streak of 2010 come to an end last night vs. Midland. But the right fielder has been Frisco's most consistent hitter down the stretch, hitting .313 (31-99) with four home runs and 14 RBI over 25 games in August.
IT'S BEEN A WHILE: The 'Riders have won four out of their last six games, winning three straight from 8/23-8/25. Frisco hadn't won three straight since July 3-4 (doubleheader) and trails Midland by one game in the second half standings. Frisco began its final regular season homestand on Tuesday night with a win over the Missions and only has three series left until the postseason begins.
RETURN OF THE LONGBALL: The 'Riders have homered in seven of the last 11 games. Last Thursday in Springdale, AR, Joey Butler grazed the foul pole in right field for his team leading 9th home run of the season in a 5-4 victory over the Naturals. Last Saturday, the
'Riders homered three times for the third time this season en route to a 5-3 win. Andy Jenkins hit a solo home run in a 7-6 loss to San Antonio on Thursday night.
STARTING TOMORROW: LHP Richard Bleier will be looking for his eighth win of the season as the 'Riders clash with Midland in the rubber game of a three-game series. The lefty is 1-3 with a 6.60 ERA over five August starts.
