TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and Trenton Thunder will meet in game three of a four-game series...The Thunder scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning and held on to end a four-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Flying Squirrels in front of 7,719 fans on Tuesday night at The Diamond.

TONIGHT'S STARTERS: Left-hander Eric Surkamp gets the start in game three of the series for the Flying Squirrels...Suffered the loss in his last outing 4/20 at Trenton...Allowed three runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings...Struck out six batters and walked five...Five walks were a season-high for a Richmond pitcher and a career-high for Surkamp...Five of six hits allowed were singles...Allowed a leadoff home run to Austin Romine in the bottom of the fifth inning...Allowed the leadoff man to reach in three of the five innings he was on the mound, scored twice...Recorded three ground outs and three fly outs...Threw 89 pitches, 51 strikes...Threw 19 pitches or more in three of his five innings...Threw 29 pitches in bottom of the third inning...Went three balls in the count to seven of the 23 batters he faced...Threw first-pitch strikes to 14 of the 23 batters he faced...Club has scored just four runs in his three outings...Is tied for sixth in the Eastern League with 21 strikeouts...Made 17 starts with Advanced-A San Jose in 2010 going 4-2 with a 3.11 ERA...Struck out 180 batters and walked 22 in 101 1/3 innings...Had season cut short after injuring his hip attempting to field a ground ball 7/18/10 against Lancaster...Named a California League Mid-Season and Post Season All-Star...Spent all of 2009 with Low-A Augusta and went 11-5 with a 3.30 ERA in 23 starts...Struck out 169 batters and walked 39 in 131 innings, third-most strikeouts in all of MiLB...Selected in the 6th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft...Attended North Carolina State University

JOHNNY ON THE SPOT: Catcher Johnny Monell went 2-for-3 last night, including homering for the second straight game with a two-run shot to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning...He is the fourth Flying Squirrels batter to hit a home run in consecutive joining Conor Gillaspie (4/14-4/15/10), Darren Ford (6/10-6/11/10), and Brandon Belt (7/10-7/11/10)...It was the sixth time that Monell has homered in back-to-back games in five pro seasons...The 25-year-old hit home runs in consecutive games four times last season with Advanced-A San Jose...No Richmond batter has homered in three straight games in the two-year history of the franchise...The Flying Squirrels have hit five home runs as a team, tied with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats for fewest in the Eastern League...Additionally, Monell's leadoff single in the bottom of the sixth inning ended a string of 23 consecutive left-handed batters to be retired by Trenton starter Shaeffer Hall...Including Monell's base hit, the next five hits for the Flying Squirrels came from left-handed hitters.

NOOONAN: Shortstop Nick Noonan has hits in each of his first five games with the Flying Squirrels since joining the club from Extended Spring Training on 4/21...The 21-year-old is 6-for-21 (.286) with one RBI and three runs scored while striking out four times and walking three...It is just the second hit streak of at least five games for a Flying Squirrels' batter...Outfielder Roger Kieschnick had hits in five straight games 4/7-4/11...Noonan is playing short for the first time since 8/24/07 while with the AZL Giants...The former supplemental first-round draft pick played 21 games at short stop in 2007 during his pro debut...He played exclusively at second base over the previous three seasons including 99 games at second with the Flying Squirrels in 2010.

AHEAD IN THE WRONG COLUMN: The Flying Squirrels lost a game for the first time since when out-hitting their opponent, topping the Thunder 7-6 in hits but falling in the game 3-2...The club had won its first six games when out-hitting the opposition...Richmond has out-hit its opponents in seven of its first 18 games this season.

CATCHING ON: Catcher Johnny Monell threw out another attempted base stealer last night...He and Aaron Lowenstein have

combined to throw out 11-of-25 would-be base stealers (.440) and their 11 runners thrown out leads the Eastern League...Monell is tied with Erie's Bryan Holaday for the Eastern League lead for most base runners thrown out (6)...Lowenstein is a perfect 5-for-5 in throwing out base runners...In addition, Flying Squirrels pitchers have picked off seven base runners including Edwin Quirate picking off Austin Krum in the top of the eighth inning.
