'Wolves Fall to Phillies 14-6

The SeaWolves got off to a hot start in the first inning on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park, but fell to the Reading Phillies 14-6.

The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning against Reading starter Ryan Edell. Jamie Johnson led off with an opposite field double and Brandon Douglas singled putting runners on the corners for Rawley Bishop. Bishop stepped in and slammed his second home run in as many days to straight away center, giving Erie a 3-0 lead.

Reading would take the lead for good in the top of the second against Erie starter Luke Putkonen. With one out, Carlos Rivero singled and Derrick Mitchell reached on an error, setting up Stephen Susdorf. Susdorf slammed a three-run home run to right, tying the game at 3-3. With two outs, Tuffy Gosewisch slammed a solo home run to make it 4-3 Phils.

In the third, Matt Rizzotti walked with two outs and Cody Overbeck followed with a single. Rivero doubled home Rizzotti for a 5-3 Reading edge. With two outs, Susdorf came through again, slamming his second three-run home run of the game for an 8-3 Reading lead. Fidel Hernandez then doubled and scored on a Gosewisch single to make it 9-3 Phillies.

Erie cut it to a five-run game in the bottom of the fourth when Ben Guez tripled and came home to score on a Francisco Martinez sacrifice fly.

Reading went ahead 12-4 in the top of the fifth inning when Gosewisch connected on his second home run of the game.

The ‘Wolves added one in the seventh when Martinez lead off with a solo home run to left, his second of the season making it 12-5.

In the ninth, Martinez picked up his third RBI of the game when he doubled home Guez.

Putkonen (0-2) dropped his second straight decision allowing nine runs, seven earned, on eight hits a walk and three strikeouts.
