TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and Bowie Baysox will meet in game one of a three-game series...The Flying Squirrels completed a three-game series sweep of the New Britain Rock Cats on Wednesday at New Britain Stadium as Thomas Neal hit a two-out, three-run double down the left field line with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth to help lift Richmond to a 5-3 win.
TONIGHT'S STARTER: Right-hander Mike MacDonald gets the start in game one of the series for the Flying Squirrels...Suffered his second straight loss in his last start on 4/24 at Reading...Allowed three runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings...Struck out three and walked one...Allowed the leadoff man to reach in four of his seven innings on the mound...Gave up five hits in the first three innings, all singles...Allowed only one base runner and faced the minimum innings four through six...Gave up back-to-back one-out home runs to Brian Stavisky and Brandon Pinckney in the top of the seventh...Threw 85 pitches, 53 strikes...Did not throw more than 15 pitches in an inning...Outing was his longest of the season...Allowed seven hits for the second straight start, most given up by a Flying Squirrels pitcher...Club fell to 0-4 in his starts...Has gotten just five total runs of support in his four starts (1.25R/GS).
Right-hander Steve Johnson gets the nod in game one of the series for the Baysox...Gave up five runs on five hits in five innings of work in his last start 4/24 against Akron...Allowed five runs on six hits including three home runs over four innings in his previous start on 4/19 at Erie...Took the loss in his only decision of the season...Began the season tossing 10 consecutive scoreless innings including working five scoreless frames against Richmond on 4/9...Traded from LAD along with INF Josh Bell to BAL in exchange for LHP George Sherrill...Rated as the #15 prospect in the LAD farm system entering the 2009...Originally selected by the LAD in the 13th round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft...Native of Kingsville, Md....Is the son of former BAL pitcher and current Orioles broadcaster Dave Johnson.
